So you decided to get a punching bag for yourself. Nothing beats having a punching bag available to you at any time of day. This means that whenever you get the urge to workout, let off some steam, or improve your craft, you can do so at will without having to drive to the gym. The challenge comes in getting the right bag. It’s much like getting into a relationship, you gotta ask yourself if you want to be in this commitment before you take that dive. Luckily, unlike people, bags come with user experience reviews.

One of the most popular bags out there is the Everlast Nevatear Punching Bag. The good news is there is a reasons it’s one of the most popular bags out there. Its been used by pros and rookies alike with good results. However, it’s not all good news out there. Let’s review the Everlast 100 lb Nevatear Heavy Bag.

In summary, here is what you will learn in this review.

  1. The bag looks and feels good
  2. It has great durability
  3. Its a little light for heavy hitters
  4. Great value
  5. Perfect for all levels of experience

I give it a 4.5 out 5 stars, almost perfect. If you are ready to buy now, I recommend getting on Amazon for a few deals.

Now on to the details.

Aesthetics

If it’s important to you how your heavy bag looks this part is for you. The Everlast Nevatear looks as vintage as a boxing bag as you can get. This is a famous look in boxing gyms across many places and many decades. It’s not a flashy looking bag with fancy logos or trim. It is however, a good looking bag, gets to the point, and looks quality.

Quality

Speaking of which, the bag is of excellent quality. This product was definitely created with effort and it shows. I’ve had a few of these and never had an issue with quality. The stitching is well done and never tears, rips or looks shoddy. The chains on top look as safe and secure as you can ask for. Definitely gets a 5 out of 5 in quality from me.

Durability

I’ve had multiple versions of this bag over a 10 year period and never had an issue with durability. If there is a product in which Everlast lives up to its name with, its the heavy bag. I’ve seen this bag used in gyms as well as in my garage and its maintained its “youthfulness” despite a daily pounding. The only thing that I will complain about is that over time the weight does shift to the bottom. So what ends up happening is the top becomes really soft and the bottom starts feeling like concrete. There are a few fixes to this, one of which is hanging the bag higher as time goes by. The upside(or not) is that this happens to most bags and is a problem you will run into with most heavy bags out there.

The Experience – Punching the Bag

The real test of how good a bag is, comes when you actually get to lay your hands on it. This bag feels great when you’re hitting it the leather creates a nice “pop” when you land. At least when you land correctly. The bag has just enough give to not break your hands and yet firm enough so you don’t feel like you are hitting a pillow. You can get an excellent workout in on this bag without feeling like you’re missing out.

The one things I will say is that it does swing if you are a power puncher. This is mostly due to the fact that it goes up to only 100 lbs and does not have heavier versions. It also come in 40, 60, and 80 pounds, but I decided to review the heaviest one as that’s what I’ve used. With the 100 lb bag you may find it swings IF you’re a hard hitter. If you’re lighter or using this for cardio boxing, you’ll be good with this bag. However, if you know you’re heavy handed, this bag will sing when you hit it. The upside is, it creates an opportunity to work on head movement, footwork and timing. Also, this isn’t unique to this bag. Any bag 100 lbs or less will swing when you hit it hard enough.

Price/Value

When it comes to the price point, it is definitely one of the most affordable, and valuable bags on the market. It ranges between $80 to $100 and will last you a couple years. It really doesn’t get to much better than that. You’re looking at cents a day for use, if you use it for 2 years and even less if more. Definitely a worthy it investment to make.

Here is a quick highlight of the pros and cons to summarize:

Pros

  • Great Quality – this is a quality leather bag with excellent stitching, chain support, look and feel.
  • Feels good – This bag isn’t to hard on the hands and yet provides enough resistance.
  • Durable – I have used these bags successful for up to two years with no issues. No personal experience after two year mark.
  • Great value – the price you pay for what you get is awesome for this bag. A good long term buy.

Cons

  • Weight Shifts – as with most bags, the weight shifts to the bottom with prolonged use.
  • Could have heavier version – this bag comes at a max of 100 lbs, which is not bad for 80% of the people out there. But if you’re a big guy/gal or a heavy hitter, then this bag will swing.

What Others Are Saying

To save you some time in going and searching for reviews, here is what others are saying about this product on the internet.

“Good bag. High Quality. Definitely can take a beating.”

“I absolutely love this bag.”

“Wish I would have bought it sooner.”

“…Exceeded my expectation

“Perfect.”

This isn’t some movie review commercial where new york times gives you a two thumbs up, these are actually web reviews. The only complaints have been about things like damaged shipping boxes and not the actual product. It’s definitely a safe bet.

Product Info – The Details

As mentioned this bag specifically is 100 pounds but comes in 40, 60 and 80 pound variations if you’re looking for something lighter. The filler is made of synthetics and natural fibers, made to absorb shock. The outside is made of synthetics leather, with webbing and good construction for durability. The straps are nylon and the 100 lb bag is about 59 inches in height and roughly 13 inches in diameter.

According to the Everlast’s website it is not recommended for outside use. Although I have had mine outside without much issue, just keep it out of direct rain or sun.

In Summary

This is a great bag that both amateurs, pros, boxing gyms, and cardio fitness junkies have used and enjoyed. It’s a good starter or pro bag and if it works for Andre Ward, it can work for you. Definitely not overpriced, good quality and worth the money. Overall I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

Buy it and Get to Work

The next step is to get the bag and get to work! Other competitors out there are either of the same or worse quality. Unless you need a heavier bag, I would end my search here and head over to Amazon where it has the best deal on this bag. Now it’s time to put the work in.

  1. I agree with the review on this bag – it’s well made, but I am a hard hitter and it swings more than I’d like. My main complaint is that there are hard areas midway up the side of the bag, like stays or plates. I’m busting my shins on them doing roundhouses and it hurts like a MF. Is anyone else having this problem (with this or another bag) and have you figured out a way to fix it? Thanks!

      Hey Karan,

For sure, the bag would be all you need to get a good workout in. I’m currently on the 100lb UFC bag and its more than enough.
